General Election 2006 -
Registration Advice


The Fiji High Commission, UK is now accepting registration of voters from; UK; Republic of Ireland; Denmark; Israel; The Holy See; Egypt; for the 2006 General Elections in Fiji.

1. Members of the British Army
According to the Electoral Act 1998, all Fiji citizens who are members of Her Majesty’s Forces are not eligible to be registered for the General Election. The same applies to their dependants.

2. For the rest, all Fiji citizens are eligible to register to vote provided they are over 21 years of age on Election Day (August 2006) and have been resident in the Fiji Islands for the 2 years immediately before the Elections (in other words, you are eligible to register as a voter if you left Fiji after August, 2004).

3. The two year qualification however does not apply to the following:-

  • Civil or military service of the state (Fiji)
  • Service within an international organisation of which Fiji is a member
  • Duties performed outside Fiji for an employer carrying out business in Fiji
  • Undergoing education or training overseas
  • Temporary absences on holiday overseas or for medical treatment or for any other purpose where such absence does not constitute change of residence.

4. All those who are eligible to register are asked to send their relevant details and postal address to the Fiji High Commission, either electronically at mail@fijihighcommission.org.uk; or by telephone on 0207 584 3661; or in writing to the Fiji High Commission, 34 Hyde Park Gate, London SW7 5DN, UK and marked clearly Voter Registration.

5. Registration will close at the end of March, 2006.
